All of the major fertilizers are higher compared to last year, with prices showing significant gains in recent months, but anhydrous had the biggest increase at 6% from the previous week and 27% higher than last year.
With time running short, the chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee said it's critical to get a deal this week on a farm bill between the House and Senate so there is time to complete the language and get cost estimates on the final bill, then take the legislation to both the House and Senate floors again.
Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, on Tuesday said that Congress should pass the Senate version of the farm bill during the lame duck session, but said it is more likely there will be a one-year extension of the expired 2014 farm bill.
